Flower Delivery Australia

Many people choose online florists to arrange flower delivery in Australia, thinking that it's the easy way out.

But there are actually lots of things to consider, when ordering flowers online.

Peak delivery times

At traditional flower-sending times of year, such as Mothers' Day, Valentine's Day, Christmas or Easter, most sites suggest placing your order 2 days early, to cater for the rush.

Although most sites advertise same day delivery if you order early in the day, knowing that thousands of people are all planning the same thing, could place your order at risk.

A site could be overloaded, response times could be slow, your credit card might experience difficulties, or they could possibly run out of couriers, and simply not be able to deliver your order the same day.

Don't take the risk - at busy times of the year, place your order at least the day before, to get a higher priority placed on your order.

Will the recipient be there?

Some companies will not leave the flowers at an empty residence. They may leave a calling card for the recipient to arrange a more suitable time, if they decide it is not safe and secure enough to leave the flowers.

That's one benefit of leaving your order to the same day, during normal delivery times. At least you can check that your receipient is actually at work, or home, or wherever you expect them to be, and not having an unfortunate sick day.

If you know someone who works with your intended, why not contact them and make sure that your recipient hasn't gone off to an offsite meeting, or left early. It can't hurt to warn the receptionist to expect a delivery.

You should try to leave a contact phone number for both you and the recipient. Most flower delivery companies in Australia aim to deliver to the workplace before 5pm, or to a residence by 7pm.

Hospital flower deliveries

You can usually deliver flowers to a hospital, if you can give specific enough information. With hospital deliveries make sure you specify the room correctly, although the actual delivery would be made to the hospital reception area.

It is best to include a vase, as there are rarely enough spare vases at a hospital.

Some hospitals will not allow potplants, due to possible microbes in the soil.

Similarly, deliveries to intensive care are not generally permitted.

Vases

I'll never forget the delivery of 12 long-stemmed roses one day at work on my anniversary. I opened them, and had nowhere to put them. We ended up having to wash out a garbage bin to put them in. Not all flower companies will deliver vases. Why not ring ahead, and make sure a friend has a vase for a bouquet/bunch delivery.

Generally boxed flowers come with individual water capsules per stem, that should provide enough water in the box, until they arrive home.

Coming Home

Will your recipient have to carry the flowers home on public transport? Go all the way, and offer to pick him/her up after work. Make it a really special day.
